Original: 23 x 29 in

Tools Used:
Strathmore – 500 Series Bristol Board 4-ply Plate, Derwent Medium Graphite Pencils, Chamois, Blending Stump, Prismacolor – Premier Kneaded Eraser, Faber-Castell – Dust-Free Eraser, Tombow – Mono Zero Eraser, Nylon-tipped Paint Brush, Golden Matte Archival Varnish

This was a fun project that took much longer than expected. Turns out the fur on the back of the bison was incredibly challenging to replicate with pencil. I was inspired to work on this project while taking my first trip to Yellowstone National Park in 2020.

Looking back on this project I would have liked to have found a different way to protect the surface from dragging my hand across the page. I was using a piece of discarded paper covered in a cellophane sleeve, but even with the sleeve, the paper got fairly dirty.

This project took just over 31 hours to complete. It felt like it should have taken much longer as it took several months to complete.
